Bear in mind that a true PRP procedure requires proper medical equipment, including a centrifuge capable of delivering platelet-rich plasma, as well as a special kit that has a specifically designed specimen tube that will also deliver the high platelet concentration necessary to perform an effective procedure. At Desert Medical Rejuvenation we use the FDA cleared PROGEN PRP® centrifuge and PROGEN PRP® tube kits from US manufacturer Crown Aesthetics, Inc., currently also in use in many prestigious university hospitals in the US; in other words, a regular lab centrifuge or a regular lab specimen tube are not indicated nor approved for a PRP procedure as they do not collect a high platelet concentration. We strongly advise due diligence in any medical office to all prospective PRP patients.
How Does PRP Skin Rejuvenation Work?
Patients who want to improve their skin tone and texture are typically ideal candidates for PRP therapy. To begin PRP therapy, you will be comfortably seated in one of our private treatment rooms. A small amount of blood is taken from one of your arms and placed in a centrifuge machine. After approximately 10 minutes on the centrifuge machine, the different components of the blood are separated and readied for injection.
In the meantime, you will be waiting with a topical anesthetic applied for your comfort about 30 minutes prior to the procedure. The concentrated plasma is then placed in a sterile syringe and injected into the designated areas. It can also be applied directly on the skin in combination with a standard microneedling device, at Desert Medical Rejuvenation we use either the ECLIPSE® MICROPEN EVO or the PIXEL-8 ® radiofrequency microneedling, with FDA cleared devices.
Plasma from PRP naturally promotes collagen production and elastin to create tauter, more youthful-looking skin. Because it uses your own blood, there is no risk of allergic or adverse reactions. You can expect your face to be a tad red after treatment as some traces of red blood cells will be included in the injection.
Although the procedure is generally comfortable, for those patients with very high levels of anxiety or low levels of tolerance to pain, we offer the use of PRO-NOX®, a device that delivers a mixture of inhaled Oxygen/Nitrous which numbs the patient's sensations for several minutes, enough to allow the doctor to complete the procedure. The patient recovers 100% at the end of the procedure.
